So, this is one that has definitely touched a nerve with me! Fifa, the world governing organization for soccer, decided 2 weeks before the final round of European qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup, that the teams that qualified for the playoffs would be seeded! This meant that out of the 8 teams that qualified, 4 would be seeded as higher rankings and not have to play each other (ie France would not have to play Portugal). In my opinion, this is what it is all about! Since there was a chance that the above teams, Portugal and France, would be drawn against one another, Fifa decided to 'alter' the rules in order for them to avoid being paired up. By having them play together, there would be one less power nation involved in the World Cup. Why not just draw from the 8 team like was the initial plan?
Robbie Rodgers came on for the last 20 minutes, and in my opinion put in a man of the match performance, and was involved in both goals. In fact, less than 60 seconds after coming into the game, Rodgers whiped a fantastic cross into the box that Conor Casey probably should have scored. One negative was that Oguchi Onyewu went off with what looked to be a serious injury in the second half. He seemed to twist his left knee or ankle as he challenged for a ball on the back post. At first, I actually thought he had broken his leg, as he was in serious agony. After seeing some replays, it looked like his left ankle or knee buckled as he fell. Watch out for more on his injury.
Whatever happened to half-time oranges? Fig rolls are the half-time snack fit for champions, it has been claimed. The secret behind everlasting life for Manchester United veterans such as Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes is apparently a hit of the fruity biscuit. Gone are the days of the humble citrus fruit and even the next generation Jaffa Cake - an orange on a cake - is passe in the Old Trafford dressing room. "The players have to watch everything they eat and drink," a club 'source' told The Sun. "A lot of the players used to have Jaffa Cakes for their half-time energy fix, but that's all changed now. Many have switched to fig rolls. Our team of nutritionists and dieticians have identified them as the perfect interval snack for footballers.
